No, Ubuntu Touch has Android drivers, SurfaceFlinger graphics server (until Mir replaces it), etc. Before 03/07/2013, Ubuntu Touch was a chroot inside Android. Afterwards, it is Android inside Ubuntu Touch, so no need of chroot.

I have done a LXDM implementation, that does not start Unity of Ubuntu and is no drag. This runs, not promiseware as Sailfish, and is based on what other have done.

Ubuntu / Canonical has to consider what others do and what they deliver, and cannot live on dreams, they have to take a vision and make it reality or others will do it for them. To compile the LDXM for Android using the Android ARM emulator is not that difficult. You also have to write the "su" or "sudo" which is the real problem that I solved by allowing the command to be issued by a certified user that can be traced has been started by the "Launcher" or relate to a window - so that task that have been started from the net cannot execute "su". That makes installation from the browser impossible from my side of the fence - you have to use the "Application Manager" that activates the "Installer" that pulls down what is to be installed - just as on Maemo.
How Android installs is the responsibility of Google. When they have done the 90% of the job, why do you expect that I should do it over for them? "/bin/ls" exists with most on the "/bin/bash" commends.

I have my projects, they need things delivered, and my investments pays a dividend or the retainer that keeps me and us going. Running around and begging for money is not my way.

Looks like the usual unsolvable "but the platform must protect users from badly written apps !!" nonsense, that just needlessly limits available application functionality.

Two examples which would this stupid decision make impossible:

• track logging in modRana, while modRana is in background
• batch tile download in background

Note that both is explicitly started by the user and the user of course expects that the application will continue working on the task until he again tells the application to stop. Not that the the system just indiscriminately stops the app once it is unfocused.

Jolla and Tizen trying to push their Android solutions. Ubuntu going for the clean road without Android application. The question is what road is the best. will the available android application stop some of the native development for jolla? It might actually be the case.

Dang! I was thinking of getting a nexus 5 for this very reason! Maybe the specs on the nexus 5 would make it too competitive with whatever official handset, from a yet to be named manufacturer, is coming out this year... Regardless, excecpt for the native multitasking I don't think the ubuntu phone will offer much more than I can already acheive on the Note 3. XDA folks have greatly expanded its capabilities. You can even give it a skin so it looks pretty much like the Ununtu touch. Anyways, have to wait and see what else is out there. At this point I'd rather buy a Jolla phone to play with than put ubuntu on a nexus 4...
