Will it be possible to use Neo900 with an external HDD AND charge the phone at the same time?

Sure, why not? N900, actually, also can do hostmode and charging at the same time, it just require one additional step after enabling hostmode wikth boost (well, two steps, if you consider plugging charger to wall socket additional step ).

Wow, didn't know that... As far as I understand, Neo900 will most likely not have HDMI/DVI, or is there still a possibility?

Define "phone functions"!

From what I know the same modem being used in the Neo900 will be an option in the Pyra, it has speakers and a microphone and I see no reason why the SHR suite shouldn't work on the pyra.

The Pyra is definitely not designed as a phone but afair EvilDragon (Pyra dev) said in some early presentation it will be possible to use the Pyra as a phone.
This info might be outdated though. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

ya I've read the same thing....I am dubious at this point tho as to whether it will be as ...hmm...comfortable...as using the n900 ...form factor wise. or whether it will be a rather awkward device for phone conversations. When it's ready I'd like to see a vid of a successful call being made.
Don't get me wrong....I personally like the direction the successor to the pandora is going...I just think it is more parallel with the neo rather than a competitor. I'd like a pyra to tinker with ...for the other things it should be fab for...

I think it was somewhere in the video I linked here* [1], where the presenter (who was EvilDragon afaik) answered to some modem-related question from the audience (which was barely understandable) by putting his Pandora to his ear and saying something like: "Yes, it will be possible, but it would look funny, don't you think?"

My thoughts exactly. Iff the Pyra will be able to make calls I'll get one in addition to my Neo900.
The worst influence the Pyra will likely have on my Neo900 commitment is that I won't buy a 2nd Neo900 board.

*) We probably should continue Pyra-related discussion there to keep the Neo900 thread clean.

I NEVER go with the pack no matter what and i would never buy a iphone, android, black berry or windows phone. Also I have nothing against the Neo900 and am sure it will be a good phone, just IMO i cannot spend £500 on 'essentially' a upgraded N900. So calm down I am in no way shouting down the Neo900. I just wouldn't buy one at that price, thats how it is, i will never get a popular mainstream phone.

No worries man...No one's jumping on you...best optimal suggestions concerning what to purchase considering the neo900 (tentative) release being the 3rd quarter of this year.......is all that I was referring to....

Heheh...personally...If I never stumbled into my 1st nxx0 I'd probably be a happy and content Android user.
But...like a good drug...it is hard to kick once you get a taste.

Frankly your aim at buying a n900 and getting used to the device and later ...possibly ...hopefully (if it goes to 2nd and 3rd runs)...buying a 2nd or hopefully 3rd run neo900 board and replacing your existing n900 board with it is a smart move.

Not a suggestion, just curious, is it possible to create cluster of two SoC's on PCB and use 1GB RAM with 512MB PoP chip connected to each SoC?

Thats ok. Yes if i was to buy a Neo900 at some point, it would probably just be the board to put into my N900 when i get one.
