what am i doing wrong?

when trying to download a route, app freezes (newest version 2.3.1 os2008, n800)

when starting mapper at command line, output is following:
~ $ maemo-mapper
maemo-mapper[5419]: GLIB WARNING ** Gtk - gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt to allocate widget with width -24 and height 0
maemo-mapper[5419]: GLIB DEBUG ConIc - con_ic_connection_send_event(0x128808, Hh, WLAN_INFRA, 0)

otherwiselyworks well with blumax slim.

edit:Hh is the name of my wlan connection

further edit: works perfectly via 3g/gprs.
gives once similar comment (con_ic_connection_send_event(0x105818...) but application works fine! well, anyway when used on the road, wlans arent available so..that's no real problem!

How big would the download size for an average city be? I tried this before, but I got some ridiculous number like 50GB for a download, and then while downloading, my n800 would just freeze.

Depends on how low you take the zoom levels. Maybe 200-500MB for a medium-large city as long as you keep the zoom reasonable.

Ok, I will give it another try and report back. I tried not to go too crazy with the zoom levels.

Is there any to get maemo mapper to announce poi's as you get close to them? I have loaded traffic safety information and would mm to warn me as I drive towards the poi's. I have ticked the announce option and installed flite, but it's not working. Seems like the announce feature only works for waypoints?

You also have to set the boundaries of the download. Instead of just the city, you may be having it download the entire state, or several.
