Uh! I remember me having installed ettercap, pcre and libpcap too when I had this Issue. Not sure either if that could be the sole issue.
I went through the packages i've installed before it happened and removed some.
Had to be one of these: arp-scan socat libnet libpcap pcre ettercap. No idea why.
Now lets see about xls documents....
