Being able to compare resistive and capacitive on a daily basis now (N900 vs C7), I'm 100% certain I'd take resistive if given the choice. Resistive is so much more reliable. It can tell the difference between an accidental touch and a touch that was meant to be registered. The capacitive screen just reacts upon everything... and has me press "back" or "undo" or whatever more often than any other input method.

i voted for capacitive screen. multitouch for one and also sheer amount of money poured into making capacitive better. Low resolution negative has been dealt with now. Two yrs ago it wasnt so. I am sure a lot of work is being done to better its accuracy. Accuracy is better at resistive but that has to do with a negative ( a softer surface on resistive ) whereas capacitive screens can use harder surfaces especially useful in harsher climates/scenarios etc. I feel capacitive is the future and it will only get better from here.

When n900 came out, resistive technology was superior in higher resolution and i feel thats why nokia went with resistive, tablet form factor needed higher resolution

I'm lending toward Capacitive right now. Resistive has it's advantages but also a lot of disadvantages the same goes to capacitive. But resistive is less responsive in certain area on screen (edge of the screen) and is not very good to use at times. Capacitive does what resistive can't do and does it really well and required only skin and body heat to get it working. Capacitive is scratchless comparing to resistive is more prone to scratches made by finger nails and stylus because it does not required pressure to use. I think it is more practicle in this generation of technology than resistive, unless they can make resistive do what the capacitive do in the next few years, otherwise I don't see resistive be the best choice for mobile devices.

Resistive is costless comparing to capacitive in term of production cost and user can use any object on it, and can use stylus to press on small objects. But that's it. Now a day, developer thinking about the Human Computer Interaction of usability, which create ease of use point of interest area with amazing API and create such a bigger buttons and tab to local zoom trick etc.. which over coming all those restriction in the earlier technology of cons of capacitive.

Don't get me wrong, I do love resistive for its precision but I do think capacitive will be a better choice for me in my next device. MultiTouch is a must for me. The screen on the N900 can be a pain in zooming, multiple gestures and playing games. So it is just to me, I hope my opinion will not causing the flame of hates and causing me to become a troll or burn the witch. Hope you all have a good sense of understanding the differences in opinion between each indevidual.

Resisitive have multitouch... so the point that it doesn't is not valid. Which seams to be the main reasons ppl like capacitive.

For me i personally prefer resistive but due to the amount of phones, tablets and what not, all coming out with capacitative I don't think I'm gonna have much choice in the matter

I'm sure I've seen it somewhere.

PS: I'm sure this poll will end up with resistive being the winner, because people tend to "protect" their phone screen. So, N900 owners tend to protect the resistive screen.
If this was done on a iPhone or Android forum, I'm sure resistive screen would have less votes.
sure if this was done in andriod or iphone forums the result would be diffrent, i am 100% sure about this

Resistive is the way to go. I had iphone and htc with capacitive displays and I didn't like them much. All devices before were with resistive and n900 after also. And I like it more. Multitouch means nothing to me an it can be implemented in resistive also. The only advantage of capacitive is that they are much more durable. But comparing resistive on n900 with the one on former p990, this one is almost unscratchable.
But capacitive with decent stylus would do also. And I think that we will see more and more devices with HW keyboard and stylus in the future. That iPhone philosophy won't last forever.

Yes it does indeed, but it is yet to commercialised. But even it has multitouch, it is still have leass sensitivity and still prone to scratch because of the thin plastic screen layer. I respect your decision but I reject your reality and for it I substitute my own. I am ready to move on and away from resistive. I don't think it's that bad at all. Resistive only use on LCD if I'm not mistaken. Capacitive uses less battery and came in variety of technology. Amoled, super Amoled, Super Amoled+, WGVA Amoled, nCdK, LCD...etc. Everyone know that LED screen has better colour and darker black.

Source? Where did you find those percentages?

people who'd like resistive more than the capacitive is like the folks that used to drive the old stick shift manual gearbox sport car, when they jump to the next technology padal shift and then they find it hard to cope with the sensitivity

They can still drive padal shift sport cars but less likely to favour one. Same goes to the people who used to drive padal shift gearbox will more than likely not in favour to drive stick shift manual gearbox car. Both can drive either gearboxes but both have difference experiences and preferred different style. Only a few would consider switching. Not everyone have the same taste.
