Hi,

I picked up a used N810 from eBay a couple of months ago (for about $100 US) after seeing it mentioned in another forum. I have to say, I really like the device, and having Linux as the OS really appeals to the geek in me. I dislike the "locked down" feel of the iPhone and iPad, even though all the cool kids have one. The community here is great (even though quite a few have moved onto the N900), and I'm running mutli-boot from the MMC, CSSU, Diablo Turbo and the Diablo5 theme.

Here's what I don't like about the system: its a bit under-powered for todays software and Internet sites. The keyboard is nice, but not very comfortable for extended use (the top row is too close to the edge of the screen slider.)

I tend to use it mainly for Internet surfing, some emulation, occasional email, the occasional quick game. I have Maemo Mapper which looks nice, but don't use a GPS app very often, I don't use it for music either.

Welcome to the Maemo community.

Other possibilities is to install Easy Debian which opens the door to run OpenOffice, GIMP, many programming languages, etc.

Have you tried Opera? - really speeds up and modernises the browsing experience.

Install Browser Switchboard, and you can then choose the default browser on the system and switch to Opera.

I've only been using mine for a little over a year. I do use it for music and podcasts, but I also use it as a PDA. I use Gene Cash's spend-it to balance my checbook; Expense Assistant to keep track of my pocket expenses; the GPE Suite for my calendar, to do list and address book. GPE can be synced with gcal and Exchange, so there's little reason not to use it. I work outside every day, so OMweather is essential. Yellow Notes and Quick Clip are great for making lists on the fly. Gnumeric is great for editing spreadsheets.

In fact, the only missing to make this perfect for me would be a dedicated Dropbox app, but since I can access it just fine through Opera I'm happy.

Opera is great, it's the browser I use most of the time. I'll check out Browser Switchboard too, I'd like to change the default browser. I also have Easy Debian installed. It's a bit slow, but nice to have the full desktop if needed (I haven't really found a need for it yet, especially after installing Gnumeric).

The linux dropbox app is command line and written in python, does it not work on the n8x0's python? If it works, you can setup a dropbox directory and run dropbox.py start to begin syncing and dropbox.py stop to shutdown dropbox when not needed.
