Hello!

After 3 years I bought a N900 - it's full of crap so I wanted to flash it but the regular site from Nokia is offline. There are images on the web and even check sums but how can I be sure that they are ok - I mean how to verify that the given check sum is the real one for the flasher and for the images?

I want to be on the safe side and don't want to install on my linux not safe software and then push not safe software to my N900

This does not yet include the PR1.3.1 (will need to find at home and fetch md5sum to post).
But as all new N900 should go the CSSU way it does not matter which version you flash, either PR1.3 or PR1.3.1.

All above checksums are md5sums fetched from official (now gone) Nokia pages. You will need to believe me (which shouldn't be too hard being a member since 2010 and councilor sine almost 2 years).

i remember using thumb previously but don't know how things are now. Any hints?

Confirmed!

Thumb is based on testing.
So as long as you do not want a rock-solid tested release (CSSU) and are afraid of some quirks that may appear in a testing release (which I do believe you do not are AND btw testing/thumb are also rock-solid and I do not know of any problems).

There is also a CSSU-devel repo which has its name (devel) on purpose.
There might be some packages you like to install (e.g. newer tiny-lib which allows TSL instead of SSL, which afaik found its way into testing already) but this is definitely not to be enabled all the time.
