It doesn't replace Maemo, no. Eventually it may be able to (unlike Nitdroid), but that's a fair way off yet.

Thanks. Could this possibly be simplified, e.g. just to Nemo 1.0, Nemo 1.1 etc.?

From the mailing list today:

Hi,

So new release is out which contains fixes for: camera, policy
framework, themes, pin query and many others.

Also this release adds gesture support to the UX. So you can minimize
applications by swiping from sides.

If you find any problems you can write them to our wikipage at
http://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Nemo#Nemo_11-10.1
NOTE: All lines that are not crossed over on previous release are still
valid for this new release.

The bugzilla is currently being setup and we should have is up and
running for bugs in during next week.

Regards,
Marko

Yes, and what's probably most useful is to make side gestures (left, right, up and down from the outside) user configurable, to make it totally flexible. For example they could be set to something like "show homescreen", "close", "open task manager" or even more actions which Harmattan doesn't have.

Just download Swipemanager from the OVI store for the N9. Works great
