Yes I know there are dozens of flashing threads out there, but I am in desperate need of assistance. I did indeed went thru a lot of reading both in and outside this community, but nothing made me progress... I had installed MobileHotspot, but realized how much of a mistake it was... I tried to uninstall the custome kernel, but now my N900 won't boot at all, just keeps rebooting over and over again (Until eventually an error msg appears: "Malfunction, device will reboot in 10s" on the Nokia logo). I have never flashed my device since I got it back in January, and I have never used a linux computer (or even played with the N900's terminal) so again, i am in very desperate need of help...

First off, I keep reading everywhere to flash fiasco FIRST and then mmc... ok, i get it... but which one is the fiasco exactly?? Is it the:
- OS 2009 version 1.2009.42-11 ?
- eMMC content 10.2010.13-2 ?
- PR 1.2 version 10.2010.19-1 ?

I went on to "assume" that the fiasco is the "eMMC content" since that's the ONLY note where fiasco is mentionned...

(By the way... I am using my only computer, which is a Windows7 64bit...the worse case for this scenario i know, but at least using Virtual WIndows XP).
So in CMD, after typing "flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R"
I get the famous message: "Suitable USB device not found, waiting"
I can plug in the N900 pressing the U key, and it will detect it, but kick it out about 2 seconds later. In those 2 seconds, I get something like:

"Found device RX-51, hardware revision 2101
NOLO version 1.4.14
Version of 'sw-release': RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1.002_PR_002
Booting device into flash mode.
Suitable USB device not found, waiting"

And after that, no matter what I do, it will refuse to detect it once again...

Please, I know I have barely just started Step 1 of the process and am already stuck, but I beg any of you, please help...what to do?

you didn't realize that emmc and mmc sound pretty much the same? (and there is no mmc anywhere, it is eMMC)

fiasco = PR1.2
eMMC = eMMC

go to http://wiki.maemo.org and see if there is something that looks useful, for example http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware ?

I did... but even trying flashing that file instead (The PR1.2 one), I only get as response:

"RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM: %m"

and then back to the prompt... what does that mean?

Just add the extension, like this:

RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin

This is exactly what I type:
1) cd "%ProgramFiles%\maemo\flasher-3.5"
2) flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

after pressing enter, it will come up with that
"RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM: %m"
no matter if the N900 is plugged in or not, turned on or not...

I have also Win7 64bit.
You have two possibilites:
1. Try reflash via Nokia Updating Software - part of OVI Suite.
If this not help, then
2. Download live cd ubuntu 10.04, also flasher 3-5 for linux - .deb file. Use this for help: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

FIASCO - PR1.2
First flash PR1.2 and remove "-R" from the last part of the line, then flash eMMC.
Hope this helps.
Regards.

I brought up my old Pentium 3, and installed full version of Ubuntu (or Kubuntu...hope it doesn't make a difference) but i was unable to install the .deb file of the flasher
I click on it, opens up the Package Installer, i click on Install Package, type in my password but then failed to install

"flasher-3.5*readme coult not be presented
try 'dpkg-reconfigure debconf'

dpkg: error processing /home/isaac/desktop/maemo_flasher
subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encoutered while processing:
/home/isaac/desktop/maemo_flasher.deb

I wasn't sure it it was debian-based, so i even have the TGZ flasher for non-debian, but there's nothing in it... no installation file, just readme and manuals...
