I probably made an invalid assumption. Good to know.

Indeed, I have heard nothing about people getting sponsorship approval yet. It would be nice to see the decisions made soon-ish though.

I'm not involved in the approval process this year but fwiw... There is not a single sponsorship approved at http://maemo.org/news/events/maemo_s.../#participants - which I believe is the canonical place to check (aprt from your mailbox).

The process is currently being defined; we'll probably do about half the number as last year straight off; and then wait for the final budget to do the remainder (including having the accomodation sorted).

Any thoughts on process? Requirements:
  1. Yes/no from each of the 5 council members (eliminates any personal bias, and ensures a majority will exist)
  2. As transparent as possible.
  3. Inspired by the basic ordering I gave a few posts back

How about a table:

Code:
+--------+---+---+---+---+---+
| Name | A | B | C | D | E |
+--------+---+---+---+---+---+
| ... | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
+--------+---+---+---+---+---+
Each council member would be allocated "A" to "E" off-list so it was anonymous. However, if this table were in the wiki, the edit log would make it clear who was saying what - which I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with.

It should be open, but the Council as a whole should be accountable, not any individual.

I agree-- a double-blind selection method is best, with overall results made visible. I'm thinking the process needs to be staged in an environment outside the wiki and published there with all results afterward. Of course, that leaves open the question for what staging vehicle...

I don't really see the need for the decision making to be open, I personally would be happy with it staying on the -council mailing list. That way there is a private record of the individual discussions which could be made open if an individual queries the decision.

If you are determined to keep it in the public then just discuss the vote on the -council mailing list and let the council chair edit the wiki with the resultant votes.

@Jaffa: well... there should be a trusted, super partes, man that gets all the votes and write them in the wiki.
Yes, I'm thinking to Quim

Thanks to Texrat and Baloo for their suggestions (one flaw with Baloo's: there's no -council list, just a council@ alias as a shortcut).

I think we'll do something with Google Docs and someone'll be responsible for making it visible at regular intervals.
