Hi.

I have several MPEG files (MPEG1), that played just fine on my N900 until PR 1.1. After carelessly assuming that since PR 1.1 has some issues on some people's N900 with extra decoders, I blamed them, likely for nothing. (sorry)

So. My N900 no longer plays MPEG files. They are listed in the list. They have thumbnails (from the previous version), but now pushing the thumbnail gets me five dots for a second then the ding and the format not supported.

I KNOW they played before. Also, MPlayer plays them just fine if launched from MC or via KMplayer Open dialog. PC (W7) plays them fine, MPC-HC reports MPEG video and MP3 audio.

So, ideas? Options? Known issues? Who is responsible for MPEG? Can I check the codec is there? Can I see if it's registered OK? Anything?

Thanks.

Perhaps:
"media player won't play any video files now (.avi) divx / xvid"

"Actual outcome:
at the bottom center there 5 "loading" dots. This goes forever."

I have an unsupported message. Also, not an AVI/XVID but an MPEG/MPEG.

I suspect that "Five-dots-of-death" is actually bug 8165 (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8165). Unfortunately 6823 specifies Divx/Xvid but I suspect it is something else which blocks gst-video-thumbnailerd and it blocks media player.

a) This is a forum not a help line, a minute is not enough to get an answer.

b) This is the wrong thread. This is about inability to play MPEG on PR1.1. Start your own thread if you want help. But,

c) Remember to search the forum, there are at least 20 or so threads on media player.

d) There's always reflashing at home, that should fix everything. Make a backup

e) Perhaps you shouldn't be installing stuff that is untested?

Thanks, I'm not alone. Voted.

Also, 8165 is not my bug, since KMPlayer plays them, they aren't locked.

If you use only KMPlayer the gst-video-thumbnailerd doesn't start it there is no graphic accelerator lock. But if you play once with system media player you may expect a lock for KMPlayer too because system media player starts damned gst-video-thumbnailerd.

BTW, it is a problem only if you have an "unplayable" video on your N900.
