The best solution I found to get Google Authenticator functionality on the N900 that supports all the websites I tested it on is to use a CLI Java program as follows:

1. Install icedtea6 for Java support.
2. Download and extract Authenticator.tgz from http://blog.jcuff.net/2011/02/cli-ja...enticator.html
3. Make Authenticator according to the README.
4. Paste your Google Authenticator private key into a file.
5. Run Authenticator as instructed in the README pointing it to your key file.

I found a project "OTP Generator for N900", it is a native app written in C: https://github.com/jwhitbeck/otpn900
Currently it looks like it is only in extras-devel and extras-testing repository. Is there any chance to have the app in the stable extras repository soon?
Otherwise, does someone recommend another OTP app that is in the stable extras repository? I did not find any through the downloads search.

I don't really know what an OTP app is or why it'd be needed on N900 and I'm too lazy to google it. But what I know it's very unlikely for anything to move to Stable anymore. It just doesn't happen, because nobody uses 'stable' anymore. Very few people use n900 or maemo at all nowadays, and everyone of them are beyond 'stable' already.

Google Authenticator / OTP is used for 2 factor authentication by some websites, it is safer than sending a verification code by SMS and can be used offline.
Is it safe to install the testing repository? Do I need to configure some APT pinning if I only want to install the testing version of a specific app, like it is done when we are installing the testing repository on Debian stable?

PS: I know that Maemo 5 is not very active but this may change with Maemo Leste.

Very few?
I do.
And I know others do.
We may not be as many as we were ...
But there are still folks who use the NITs.

I think what we may have here...
And I could be wrong in my speculation...
Since we always have new folks coming here having just got a n800 or n810 or n900 or some of them ...or all of them..

But ..in this case..
Koiruus's join date is 2014 ...
4 years after the release of the n900 ..
I think what we have here is someone who :
- doesn't follow in any way the NIT subforums..or the traffic there...who may have used a n900 (since that is the ONLY NIT he refers to (I still use the n800 and n810 and their repos still work fine...) but has since moved on...
- doesn't know what he is talking about ...
- doesn't care to know...

bet he is a Sailfisher.

And if he'd be an iphonista, it would have been enough to give your valid remark regarding still ongoing activity.
The "Sailfisher" name calling only builds up a wall towards Leste adoption with new users IMO.

Be more hearty and forgiving with your fellows.
We all want to be like you when it comes to NIT know how. Why are we here after all?

I think that the Jolla endeavour created and brought together enough monsters and ugly behaviour ...
even to our forum ...
all on their own ...
I just point out their known history...
and have little tolerance for anyone pushing ...

On the whole I am pretty easy going and go with the flow ..
until someone decides to push...

Everyone wants to be like me in NIT know how?
Now that is flattering Mosen ..
But I sincerely doubt that.
There are many many many others to emulate ..
In my estimation (at least I think so) far surpassing me in ability....

hell ...even some of the new folks ...the recent folks to the NIT line ... have my immense respect for their determined study and shown it in what they tried / have applied it to ...
I won't name names ...since if they find out.. they may have a hard time fitting their swollen heads through TMO doors afterwards..

But for me...praise ...whether sincerely or otherwise meant ...
as great as it is to hear...
mortifies me.
