Does the GCONF way of OS2008/2009 not work on your OS?
(You could try my moreDimmingOptions , don't know it will work on your OS.)

Device's backlight shuts off automatically acording to the setting's amount of time, Max time is 2min.
How can I prevent this? I need the backlight to illuminate always.
Thank you.
