Hi,

Until recently, I used the avahi-daemon package (and a few others) from the oakcourt repo.

Recently, an updated package has become available from the maemo.org repository (0.6.20-2indt1) but it will not install properly. I've even reflashed my n800, but to no avail.

Attempting to install with apt-get yields:

Setting up avahi-daemon (0.6.20-2indt1) ...
chage: can't open shadow password fileStopped: `/usr/bin/chage -M 99999 avahi' returned error code 1. Exiting.

Removing user `avahi' ...
Removing group `avahi' ...
dpkg: error processing avahi-daemon (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of avahi-utils:
avahi-utils depends on avahi-daemon; however:
Package avahi-daemon is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing avahi-utils (--configure):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
avahi-daemon
avahi-utils
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Nokia-N800-26:~#

Any idea what's wrong? Do others see this problem? I need to get avahi-daemon installed again.

Well, I worked around this by disabling the maemo.org repository and installing avahi from oakcourt again. Hopefully the package from maemo.org will get fixed.

I strongly suspect running the command "pwconv" as root, which will create /etc/shadow, will allow the avahi-daemon package to install successfully. Seemed to work here.
