Does anyone know if there's an API for the fm tuner or any way of implementing it in an application? I'd be interested in working with someone to create a simple alarm clock that utilizes the fm tuner...

On that same subject, is the FM tuner data available to software? It'd be awesome to develop support for FM-RDS Traffic Message Channel data in combination with maemo-mapper.

The product information sheet for the chip in the N800 indicates that it uses an I2C interface for tuning and the like. It also exposes decoded RDS data via the same interface, which provides an out-of-band metadata channel for radio stations, in addition to traffic information, time updates, etc.

edit: My mistake. It's only one specific model in the family that supports it. *sigh*

could this be the famed easter egg? i have listened to the FM Radio, and the quality certainly surpasses plain old stereo sound. could it be a high-def, RDS enabled tuner?

it's a very high quality tuner, that's certain. But it is not RDF-enabled.
