I like to listen to music in the shower to get me going in the morning. I had a small radio/CD player that, along with the N900's FM transmitter, served my purposes fine. However, that radio finally stopped working recently. So, for a few weeks relied on the N900's built in speakers. Not surprisingly, I found them too weak.

I was getting some things from a local pharmacy, when I noticed that they had an electronics section. A pair of "multimedia" speakers caught my attention. They connect through a standard head phone jack and can work in passive (no batteries) or active (battery amplified) modes. For just $20 i decided to get them. Here is the model in Amazon:

They can also be powered through USB, but I doubt that the N900 can provide enough (if any) power for them. So, I haven't even tried that. But, I can tell you that they sound great!

I still haven't found any FM radio that works properly with the N900's FMtx, even with the signal boost. The best I found is a car radio that picks up the signal if I open the N900's keyboard and put my thumb on the keyboard somewhere in the middle. If I take my thumb off it turns to static. Weird.

I have found that on some cars I have to look for the right spot to place the N900. Move it around the car to find the sweet spot and then figure out how to fix it there. I think it has to do with the antenna. Other factor is the amount of interference in your area.

For me it works very well.
