Hi,

I just learned about the piratebox thing:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PirateBox

and was wondering whether this could be done with an old n900.

Would be a nice set up.

What do you think about it?

There is a newier Version out, so perhaps some improvments, too. Perhaps a fun thing to take with you to a lake and see whos phones connect to it xD

This is not fun, it is called surveillance.
You still need some sort of ethics to run PirateBox.

Ethically, people at the lake shouldn't be connecting to a network they don't own, even if it is open. Of course, the flip side of that is that you shouldn't do anything to them once they do connect.
