Quake 3 or Open Arena come to mind first, but you won't have much of a chance against a PC peripherals. There is Teaworlds as well. Uhh Wargus (Warcraft 2), Boswars. There are many more, but that is all that comes to mind.
EDIT: Forgot to point out Quake 3 and Warcraft 2 aren't free. Open Arena, Teawords and Boswars are however

Warcraft 2 aren't free
You need the game data tho...Wargus on n900 crashes when it's trying to connect to host so even if it would be free you can't play multiplayer.

Teeworlds works pretty well. I set up a server on my laptop and had my N900 connect online. The only problem is that the N900 doesn't necessarily have the best controls for Teeworlds.
