Ok, so here's my list. Most of the things have already been cited, but I guess if people recognize some of their favorite apps in my list, maybe the rest might interest them as well.

In bold, the real life-changing apps. The list is in alphabetical order.
  • AdBlock plus (removes ads from web pages)
  • adflashblock-css (lets you chose if you want flash to be played on web pages)
  • Auto-Complete editor (to remove annoying typos from the auto-complete dictionary
  • BlueMaemo (to control your computer though bluetooth. Useful as media remote)
  • CasualServices (to find stores and other services like dry cleaning around your location - works really well)
  • Conboy (for general note-taking)
  • Dorian (for e-book reading. I used to be a fan of FBreader, but this one has all the advantages of FB, and more !)
  • Facebook plugin to share photos
  • Flashlight
  • Foreca Weather Widget (to know how to dress in the morning)
  • Hermes (to get contact infos and avatars from facebook)
  • Merge your duplicate contacts (to easily find and merge contacts entered twice)
  • MGutenberg E-book Reader (because FBreader and Dorian's e-book downloading system doesn't work or doesn't exist, and MGutenberg's works flawlessly.)
  • OpenSSH client and server (for geeks :-) )
  • pygtkeditor (a really great editor to code some python scripts on your N900)
  • recaller (for use as a dictaphone and to record your phone conversations)
  • SeriesFinale (to keep track of what you saw and what's new on the air in all the series you are watching (and I watch a lot of them) )
  • Shopper (for making your shopping list effectively)
  • TouchSearch (search from your desktop directly to google/google maps mobile/imdb/wikipedia/etc (faster than opening a browser first)

That's it. I didn't list all the extra codecs and IM protocols.

I would not agree with your statement, yes the web browser is amazing and all the mentioned services work as expected but an app combining them all would be great.

Such an app exists on Symbian, its called Gravity, Twitter/Facebook/feeds/Foursquare/Flickr all rolled into one slick app.

There is no competing with an app that does so much

The new App Search Widget is definitely one of the most useful apps. It lets you find apps very quickly like Win7's Start menu. I'll never have to scroll through that big ol' app list again!

Lot of people posted their lists here. So here goes mine:

- Opera Mobile - faster then MicroB and flashless
- Catorise - to have apps nicely sorted
- Calendar Widget - the one with customizable amount of entries
- Faster Application Manager - cause it is really faster
- Conboy for notes
- Witter for checking Twitter on the move
- X-Chat for IRC talks
- Hermes for populating contacts with extra data
- Currency converter - usable on travels
- Erminig to load Google Calendar data into Calendar - not perfect tool but works
- fMMS - cause I sometimes get MMS or want to send such
- Garnet VM - Metro under PalmOS is awesome
- Mappero + Maep - cause Ovi Maps are useless for in-city walking navigation
- MyTube to show YT videos (ZouTube is a joke compared to MyTube)
- Powatool, Ses, Tweakr for changing few extra things in system
- cpumem applet to see how overloaded my phone is
- SiB + MPlayer to watch some movies
- Tracker cfg to tell which directories I do not want to see in Media Player (I use SiB with them)
- Transition control to kill all those "smooth" crap
- WifiEye to check how bad wifi can be
- Merge duplicated contacts plugin

To avoid:
- Zoutube - MyTube is better
- Twitter integration into Contacts - easiest way to duplicate contacts

I've found another must-have app recently - Scout. Finally some much-needed search functionality!

Yeah, unfortunately, Janole doesn't appear eager to do a Qt version. His update for the N8 is still based on the older legacy code. All of the twitter solutions on N900 so far are pretty bad. Living with Witter for now, though Gravity alone is making me want to go back to my N97...
