The sound issue is due to this bug in Allegro 4.2:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s....2/+bug/445945

It seems that if we could get a later 4.2 version compiled, or compile libaldmb1 against 4.4, we could get sound working in AGS. There's still the issue of not being able to exit easily from fullscreen, but windowed mode seems to work alright.

I've been testing with Heroine's Quest. The file is too big to attach unfortunately...
Beware that Allegro 4.4 has many pending issues and sound requires excessive CPU.

In that case, it would be better to get Allegro 4.2.3 compiled maybe? Is the maintainer around still? (packages show Ian Hatton as the maintainer.)

4.2.3 has this sound bug fixed apparently.

No, Allegro 4.2 is not known to work and maintainer is MIA. Allegro 4.4 is the way to go, but fixing it's current problems will require a very talented (and dedicated) developer.

Is it? I have it installed, and it works perfectly for the few games that use it (atanks, etc). Although, the part about maintainer being MIA still apply.

Really? I remember to talk about it with Aapo and I thought that the only working version was 4.4.

Does 4.2 have any issue with input grabbing or CPU consumption when sound is enabled? Maybe it's worth if I rebuild Head Over Heels with it.

I haven't encountered any of those isues (although, I haven't did any extensive testing). You may do more scientific measurements by installing [b]atanks]/b] or any other allegro 4.2-dependant game
