it's /home/user/.osso/hildon-home/hildon_home_bg_user.png
so from python you can copy a new image to that location, but it will probably not be displayed until you log out/in - you can try via a remote login. Be prepared to re-flash if things go wrong !!

Is there a way (in python) to get the path to the currently set desktop background image ? Thanks!
