@juiceme

Keep calm. I am sure it will arrive soon. (sorry, could not resist.)

If you would happen to live nearby I would you offer mine as long as yours is on the way.

There is no difference.
Both need to be unshielded to work as antenna.
A self confectioned cable would make it easier to match the length of Half-wave resonance, which is ~140cm for UKW on high impedance devices like a phone for perfect results.
My propriatary 1m cable is part of the active speaker but gives good reception "somehow" nevertheless.

I only mentioned it as a work around to have FM sound on speakers, not headphones.

That is what I am not so sure about. I would be very surprised if that were the case since most (all?) headphones cables are at least partially shielded, so I would assume that it is actually the shield that is used as an antenna and not the core. It is easier than it sounds, with some HF filtering. Which is why I find it strange that different cables should give different results. Maybe the key is the "active" part: the power cable to your speakers adds some extra length.

You are right!
The shield is not grounded so it can be and is used as antenna.

I need to get my to complicated english/german lost in translation right...
As you can see i edit nearly all of my posts and juggle sentences to make them more understandable, now i actually dropped a "un" in front of shielded... geez... the sentence was "it is not possible with unshielded cable" but i discarded that and turned it around...

Going to leave it to not let your correction look awkward.
Thanks, i appreciate it as you know.

What does 'draining like hell' mean? Any numbers?
Little more details would be nice... Running apps, do you use Android apps, any accounts active?

Just a note: Normally, mobile data connection drains battery faster than WiFi.
Given the data consumption, for me it seems that you have a data hungry app running or one of your accounts is constantly syncing...

There's several apps (ex. Crest, Lighthouse) in Store that you can use to check what is running. In Warehouse there is also System Monitor.
