Warranty usually doesn't cover (unintentional) damages caused by user. This cases could be covered with extended warranty or insurance.

as said,a screen smashed by the user is not a manufacturing fault and would not be covered by a warranty regardless of how long the warranty was.

It would however be covered by household contents accident insurance 100% so if it has broken through accident you can claim either the full repair or a brand new replacement.

99.9% household contents insurance cover mobile equipment outside of the home no matter where in the world you happen to be when the "accident" occured.
