Now I've lost my beloved n900. (The main one)

(I'm using it since some month without USB-port, since it is broken.)

How did I brick my n900?

I've switched to the "Offline-Mode".
At restart my n900 asks if I want to switch to online mode.
But it doesn't react to any answer ...
So it stays always at this dialog and the n900 doesn't start no more.

Consider a reflash of your phone, back-up your data. But when impossible it's no big problem, the reflash won't erase all data

A FULL reflash WILL erase all data. Trust me i've done it twice.

You may get away with a partial reflash if your rootfs is intact.

Hmm, I'll say up front that I don't have a certain answer; re-flashing is going to be difficult if you don't have a working USB port. I have two thoughts:

1) do you have BackupMenu and a recent backup? If you can restore from SD card to a point before you went into offline mode, that might help.

2) this is a long shot, but, you could tell it not to go online, let it boot up fully, and then from a terminal:

/usr/bin/dbus-send --system --type=signal /com/nokia/mce/signal com.nokia.mce.signal.sig_device_mode_ind string:"normal"

Don't know why this is supposed to work if the GUI doesn't, but it's got to be worth a go...

Thank you everybody for your answers.

Reflashing is difficult without a working usb port.

I can't start any application and any terminal:

The "knight rider" shows up and during this time a dialog appears that asks me if I want to switch off the offline mode on to the online mode.

...But the dialog is not responsive and blocks the whole booting process.

... what I would like to hear would be "You hit these three buttons during the booting process and this dialog is skipped." But I think there is no hope.

The question is, why does it not respond? Maybe your touchscreen has a failure?

Do you hear the click sounds when pressing somewhere on the screen?
