I have heard nothing but good things about these phones so decided to go out and buy one! Absolutely love it and have heard it's the best one to get (even though its quite old now)

Anyway with the mapping software i have it is the standard that comes with the phone but i was wondering if there's much better software out there for mapping which also includes voice directions too? I dont mind paying for the software so it doesnt need to be freeware.

I'm not sure if this is true but i have tried to update with ovisuite to which it allows me to update the map but says it doesnt support voice directions, is this true?

Is there better software out there you lot could recommend?

Thanks v much.

The community has stepped in and added voice support to Ovi Maps for Maemo. Search this forum to find the thread/link.

Regarding 'best' software, personally I like Sygic the best even though it is a commercial product (and I am not even sure if you can still purchase it). There are some limitations with the product as well (i.e. memory leaks, etc...) that make it less reliable on long trips.

One thing you will find is that there is no shortage of mapping software on the N900. Try them all and see which one you like the best.

Hi there ok thank you very much for your help.
Can i have the original OVI Maps aswell as Sygic or do i need one or the other?

If so would i need to uninstall the ovi maps first? If so, how?

Thanks very much for your help again

No, you can have several different GPS programs, you don't have to uninstall anything, just download the ones you want.
For all the GPS programs out there have a look at the application list because there is a good few out there.

Modrana uses open street maps & has voice guidance.

I like it, among other reasons, because part of its design concept is large controls, which can be easily manipulated in more travel environments like dashtop, bicycle, etc.
