Running it from the command line causes X Terminal and skype to hang until X Terminal is closed.

EDIT:

Never mind. After trying these instructions instead it worked fine .

Binary corrupted means you're still with the old skyhost from the OS2007 install.

I've done the Skype install on my 770 2007HE, and have had some success.
I can place a call to another skype user on a Linux computer without an error message. However, when I attempt to call another user who is using a skype phone device (unknown brand) I get the "no common codec" message.
Is it possible or likely that skype compares software on each end of the call when starting, and that some are incompatible? Possibly some codec is missing on the 770?

As all other VIOP applications Skype does negotiate with "remote end" which codec(s) to use. Unfortunately, g729 codec is not implemented for Nokia 770. Lack of that codec will produce "No common codec" error.

Which meens, I downloaded the wrong skype.deb file. Could be possible. I'll check that this afternoon.

Thank you!

Hi Bundyo,

I tried to get the OS2008 Version of the Skyhost binary but I think I installed it following the instructions I mentioned. Because when I look at
Skype Binaries
again, I only see the version I downloaded: skype_1.7.62.48.5_armel.deb

Was that wrong? I meen it is "the latest armel.deb" I see

Thanks and I hope you can help.
Timo

EDIT: Ok as far as I see, chinook is the latest OS which meens the OS2008 released for the N810. That meens I've made a mistake during the installation of Skyhost... I'll try that again.

ANOTHER EDIT: Damn, it works now... but please don't ask me what was wrong before... I just copied skyhost to /usr/bin again and chown user:users skyhost again.... hmmmm It works!

Hi. So what does this mean in terms of using skype on the 770?
A) you can't call to skype phones?
B) you can't call to anyone except who has SKpe on a PC?
C) some of the above.
Have people been able to make calls to non skype users?
thanks.

I get the 'common codec' error when trying to call the 'echo/test' contact. Any updates on other known issues would be much appreciated.
Happy Xmas !

My skype worked on day 1, see prev post on this thread, I thought. With more field trials, actual using, I found out that this skype hack does NOT do skype to skype call. It works fine with skype to landline after buying the skype out credit. Is this true for everybody or mine is different?

Edit: Everything is fine, I forget to turn on the other Skype.
