I wasn't referring to Openstreetmap, but to the live traffic update layer on Google maps, which is only displayed by Google and Microsoft for the major roads. It is not possible to display this on Wayfinder, and they killed their live traffic service at the start of last year.

Openstreetmap has fairly decent coverage in this area, and I am already mapping the residential area where I live using OSM2GO for upload to OSM.

Aside from that I installed Navit from the maemo.org downlaods page this afternoon, and used the instructions on the Navit 770/800/810 page to copy and configure the XML files, and downloaded the OSM maps for it. Got it going really quickly and painlessly

got to say that I am fairly impressed with it. The app has some rough edges, especially around the menus, and POI searching is not easy, but it is very useable. Only other gripe is that I have not managed to make it use miles instead of kilometres as the distance unit, and my fervent googling seems to indicate that Navit only supports Kms at this time, although I hope someone will prove me wrong.

I contacted Wayfinder through their support page on Saturday and got an answer today:

Dear customer,

thank you for contacting our support. As you have a Navicore license it should be perpetual. However please note that user's who had purchased a Wayfinder Navigator for Internet Tablets license have on a time based license. These licenses will expire. I have however extended your license so that it will not expire.
After updating the license in the Map application, the expiration time is 2019-05-12. Not perpetual but long enough.

Has anyone else solved the expiration problem?

Nope, I didn't have time to argue the toss so I got a TomTom instead

Good news for others that they may be fixing the licensing issue though.

I've bought the Navigation Kit for Nokia N800 IT back in 2007.
There was no map application on OS2007 so I have a license for Navicore Personal 2007 Europe.

After OS2008 release I used my key to activate the pre installed Wayfinder Navigator.
I've just checked the product info and I've found out that my Wayfinder Navigator will expire on July 2010.

I've just sent an email to Wayfinder through their support page to ask them to extend my license. I'll post the answer.

Today I received the answer I was waiting for, as said before in this thread the licenses for Navicore are perpetual, so if you bought the navigation kit for N800 (like I did) or a license for Navicore personal 2007 you can contact Wayfinder and ask them to extend the license expiry date. The licenses bought for the built in map application in OS2008 (Wayfinder navigator) are limited to three years.

Thank you all for this really useful thread.

I just filled the online form in the support page of http://www.wayfinder.com/

I wrote them telling that I bought a Wayfinder personal 2007 (Europe edition) license for the software shipped with the Nokia N800 navigation kit. I also told them that I found out in this thread that the licenses for that software was supposed to be perpetual and not limited to three years like the one bought for the preinstalled map application shipped with the OS2008 update and I asked them to extend my license expiry date.

I received an answer from support.onboard@wayfinder.com and after an email from them asking some clarification about the version of the software I received another email in which I was told that my license was extended.

Then I updated the license information on my N800 from the menu of wayfinder navigator.

I don't know if now something is changed, you already know they are shutting down their business and I hope for you that is not too late for you to have your license expiry date postponed to 2019.

Good luck and let all us know the results of your effort.
