What do you mean you clicked on the desktop? Double tapping the desktop widget in ASUI kills the desktop service, long pressing it will stop and then restart the desktop service. You close ASUI by pressing the escape key or the power button or by swiping from the button bar (top of screen in landscape or right side of screen in portrait) to the widgets.

Try rebooting the tablet, long press on power button will still work. Try it on and off of the charger.

Okay. I missed that somewhere.

I rifled through your entire site but I didn't catch what the Desktop button did or where you even wrote about it.

I just assumed it would bring my desktop back on the screen

Why would I ever want to kill this service and just be left with a white screen by the way? I did this 3 times and the button now scares me. *lol*

Anyway, I don't get the use for this.

Well, I'm off to go grab your Xmms script that you did for us!

Thanks chief!

http://asui.garage.maemo.org/widgets.html#desktop

Any widget with a green/gray dot is designed to start/stop/restart services associated with it. Statusbar and desktop applets can leak memory causing the service to grow, restarting it will free up that memory. Applets can also get stuck and this provides an easy way to restart it. You can also see how much memory the services are using in the lower right corner of the widgets.

I take it your device is working now and ASUI is starting automatically?

The next release will not automatically start ASUI or replace SystemUI when you install it. It'll show a nasty warning notice pointing users at the website and forcing them to enter asui-settings to enable it at boot and start the service. This should solve any problems with users stumbling across it and then ending up with broken systems and not knowing what to do.

You will need to run "asui dit; asui dis; asui da" after installing to download and install the test version which has the new audio lock button. And find my latest post in that thread for instructions on adding an xmms profile.
So in Xterm, I did this as root:

asui dit (don't think this really did anything)
asui dis (same with this)
asui da (got the update)

It told me I needed to restart ASUI so I
killall hildon-desktop

I didn't find your new Audio thingy setting.

From there, I went into ASUI settings and clicked on restart ASUI.

I'm back to where I was in the very beginning screenshot.

No battery, it just grays for a second clicking on the icon, nothing happens from the Application Manager again, and the power button is dead.

Please don't make fun of this newb.

EDIT: Thanks for the link. I actually clicked on each of your pages and searched for "desktop" twice through all of them but for some stupid reason, it didn't find that description.

I have been running as root: "asui dt; asui it" (I believe this downloads and installs the latest test binary)

Ugh, I keep forgetting that 0.5.9 doesn't have the new convenience script. The 'dit' and 'dis' commands are in the new script, run 'asui uu' to install it. 'dit' is a short for dt/it and 'dis' is a shortcut for ds/is.

I believe it said to restart the statusbar applet, not ASUI.

Restarting hildon-desktop works or you could just go into control panel, turn off the asui battery applet and then turn it back on.

This means that ASUI is not running and the battery applet can't communicate with it. You can either go into asui-settings and try to start it or run 'asui s' from terminal as root.

Don't thank me yet, you haven't used it long enough to find the rotten easter eggs.
