I did not see any request for this in brainstorm for Maemo5, so here goes:
It would be nice to have a Usenet newsreader for the N900.

Usenet except for certain purposes is not as popular as it used to be. In fact, my ISP (Time Warner Cable) stopped support for Usenet without any notice, may it burn in hell forever. But I pay a couple of bucks to get Usenet elsewhere. So a newsreader would be handy.

What about something like slrn. Text based so shouldnt really be hard to get working for the N900. Or were you chasing something more like Pan?

if you install emacs, you can use the perhaps best newsreader of all, namely gnus.

@Bratag: as slrn is also able to download and decode binary postings, I would say that it is a complete newsreader. I myself use Xnews for many years now.
@filologen: I am not familiar with gnus, will check it out.

I've been able to build slrn from source and have used it successfully several times over the last few months - seems to work well and is suited to use on the n900. I using libslang2 from http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mae...free/s/slang2/ and the Maemo SDK Virtual machine Image. I've also built nzbget for binaries, but haven't really needed to use it.
