Dustin has created a simple app to autolock the N810 touchscreen & keys whenever the ambient light sensor is covered.

Enjoy!

The idea is A+. I'm going to try this as it adds a useful choice to the available locking options. I have a leather flip style case that I really like except that I occasionally get a touchscreen event when I open and close it. This might lock it before sending an event when closing. Now if it would unlock when uncovered (as an extra option of course) it would be brilliant...

thanks.

edit-> oops, it looks like it is an 810 specific app.

Great! But... how do I know if it's working when it unlocks automatically? :P
Covering the sensor with my thumb does it, but it's tricky to figure out whether it locks when I put it inside its case...

Edit:
Duh, the power LED. Yay, it works! This is exactly what I wanted; you read my mind, sir

Seriously... One of the most useful apps EVER created.

Thanks!

Wow, this is like one of those "why didn't I think of that!?" kind of apps (at least for me anyways).

I would like to see something like this in the next OS 2008 release.

HINT: Any Nokia employees, can you make this happen?

But what if you are trying to work on your tablet in the dark? Not trying to be a wet blanket, but I see enough potential for user confusion, I can't see it going into production.

True, But it does use a timer so it does not lock it immediately. Only after some inactivity.

Confusion solved -

Add a control panel preference:

"Disable", "5 Seconds After Covering Light Sensor", "10 Seconds After Covering Light Sensor".
