Android is the only option they have to survive in phone market when they will launch their own phone. If Nokia becomes successful, and captures some market share then they can develop their own OS to compete with Android.
And one thing im too much sure that Nokia will be the leader again in Phone market.

One needs to be delusional if anybody here thought Nokia would ever touch MeeGo, Jolla or similar again. That path died long time ago.
Nokia has been saying almost a year that they will do something similar they did with N1 with the "possible" phone. Nothing has changed there. New Nokia hopefully isn't that stupid to jump into that market seriously ever again.
