New blog post:

https://blog.jolla.com/happy-2018/

Two new Sony Xperia devices will be supported: the dual-SIM X, and a "to-be-announced next generation device".

I'm probably going for the to-be-announced one. I hope it's a the highest end possible device so I'm covered for a few more years ..

Honestly, my wish as a Sailfishos fan and follower: I'd appreciate it if Jolla would fix or comment their very bad camera software which they delivered with the Sony Xperia X first before making exciting announcements about new devices to come.

This still looks pathetic,
but if anyone can get i2pd and/or some version of toxchat
working on Sailfish then it might be worth a look.

I still use whisperfish for encrypted sms, that's about all. Does cyanide still work for tox? Outside of that, are there any Alien Dalvik options that'd suit you? Sailfish has at least some measure of expected privacy, since - unlike Apple, Microsoft and Google - they aren't subject to NSA/CIA disclosure requirements.

Edit: moreover, what's pathetic about a real Linux in your pocket that doesn't have attack vectors purposely left open? Especially one that's officially supported on a nice device, with obvious work going into it? It isn't mainstream, and issues are constantly being ironed out. If you don't like it, don't use it, but don't call the work and result pathetic as it only serves to make you look bitter and ill-informed. Use Android if it suits you, but don't expect any real privacy or security, even with your i2p and tox implementations.

which is exactly what I want,
but it must be able to run i2pd and uTox or qTox or Antox
or some other Tox communication.

Android does not 'suit me' at all.
Which is precisely why I ask here - I loathe the idea of using Android.
But buying into Sailfish if it cannot run tox + i2pd is a deal breaker.

After paying into Ubuntu's failure and a couple of other fails
I have learned the hard way to ask hard questions
before wasting huge amounts of time chasing promises.

jTox, cyanide, and numerous options left available through Alien Dalvik. Why does a (very) specific and narrow use case equate to a platform being "pathetic"? There are bugs and quirks, sure, but it's literally the only reasonable alternative when it comes to modern mobile OSes, especially for devices where telephony is a priority. Tizen and Ubuntu Touch were trash out of the gate. If there's a better example than Sailfish on the Xperia X, especially in the realm of officially supported reasonably modern hardware running a reasonably modern Linux kernel, I'd be all ears.

"While we’re already working on to support a next generation device,"

"As we’re working already on two other new devices (the dual SIM and the to-be-announced)"

I wonder if this means the device has not yet been announced by Sony (new device)? Or does it mean the device to be supported is already released by Sony but support is not yet officially announced by Jolla?

I think it means a device is already released by Sony but support is not yet officially announced by Jolla.

But I am just happy to see that they will officially support dual-sim and compact versions of the phone
