The small board of my N900 which has the SDcard reader and magnets and camera cover detector is totally broken and is not usable anymore (actually the connector cable to the main board is broken), so the camera does not work because whenever I launch the camera app, it closes automatically and shows a Operation failed message.

Is there any method to force the phone to make the camera available? any tricks or hacks?

But that connector connects the camera to the main board does it not?

It is possible to disable the camera slider from the command line.

Camera is on the mainboard and is ok. Only that small board which contains the Flash light is broken.

At a guess
Code:
/sys/devices/platform/gpio-switch/
by making correct item in here read-only?

I tried to change
Code:
/sys/devices/platform/gpio-switch/cam_launch/state
from inactive to active. But it is not allowed to edit this file. Even if I change the permissions to 777, it still won't let me do that.

That would be because it isn't a real file.
