Hi,

Many of the apps on my N9 suddenly refuse to open.

Background:
I was running about 6 apps including music, browser and mail.
It began to lag significantly, and then got stuck completely, with the mail app refusing to respond to both in-app and off-screen swipes.
It remained stuck for about half an hour, after which it started working again.
But now, i can't open many of the apps:
Mail
Browser
Camera
Clock
Gallery
Music
Videos
Some of the apps installed from Store

Following do open:
- Phone
- Messages
- Some of the apps installed from Store

Further background:
My power button does not work, so I can't restart the phone.
The restart app, that i had downloaded in case such situations arise, does not open either.

Any help would be much appreciated..

Thanks,

Check the size of your /home partition using terminal... It may be full...

Does terminal work? You can reboot with command.
And do df -h command to check memory.

You're speaking about BTinput Terminal?
I hadn't installed it earlier, and its not downloading now (not sure if its a related issue).

I used Filebox to delete a few 100 MB of files from /home/user but it doesn't seem to have helped.

Terminal app is that you get when you activate deleloper mode.

Ah, ok.
Settings doesn't open either, so I can't activate developer mode.

Update:
Used flasher to reboot it with the flasher -R command.
Worked like a charm.

It initially did not recognize the phone, and the
- Charging only
- Sync and Connect
option came up.
On selecting Sync and Connect, it recognized the phone, and flasher -R caused a restart.
On restarting, everything seems to be working fine.

Thank you..!

P.S. Any thoughts on what could have caused such selective app-impairment would be appreciated.

Not going to open new thread since this seems to relate to my own problem.

I suffer from similar problems with both of my N9's. Symptoms are, that eventhough the phone seems to be running normally, some apps do not open anymore. Pre-start apps like the phone app, still work normally. But for example settings, or any store installed or third party app cannot be started. Reboot will always solve the problem, but it seems that the phone takes a bit longer to shut down (the indicator light stays on long). Rebooting must always be done from the powerbutton as terminal is also one of the apps that refuses to work.

I previously thought that this problem always occurred just after long time of using tweaked phone, but I recently flashed my phone and the problem represented itself in just couple of days this time.

I am not savvy enough with this kind of tech that I would know how to start solving this.

Problem occurs with both of my phones with following "big and small" tweaks. Open and Closed mode. Powerpack installed. Stable FasterN9 (but I am pretty sure it occured also without it). Both power kernel and normal one. Coderus and MAG's Unrestricted UI and Cyclotron. Coderus aegis-install tweaks In addition to those, have made alot of other tweaks, but only those that are present in the N9QuickTweak app.

Any hints how I could start solving this or is this common problem for many?

Well, if you have developer mode enabled you could try to open an app via terminal and look at the output...
