I haven't tried a reinstall of kernel-power* but it is possible that messing with the kernel voltages, frequencies, etc would have been another solution. ie)
sudo kernel-config load ideal

great
this :
sudo kernel-config load ideal

helps a lot, although i dont have the absolute newest cssu or KP, maybe that could also solve the problem

I had the same issue with the newest cssu and KP on my n900. Biggest improvement was messing with the overclock settings.

Ironically with video playback I can't use the "ideal" settings (get random reboots). To fix that I load a different profile for the overclock that provides more power. The "ideal" settings are still my default though otherwise the battery drains to quickly.
