Hmm. You definitely have aircrack installed correctly. Try the command in xterm:

sudo gainroot
airodump-ng wlan0

Hmm I was hoping to have a go at WPA... do you know what software I could use to bruteforce a WPA key on my computer? And would the increase in speed be sufficient to crack the key in less than a year? I wonder if there are 'intelligent' wordlists/softwares that try the most common words/phrases first?

I've found with WEP, the authentication step is the most tricky. Quite often, even after faking my MAC to match a connected client, the authentication window closes - either immediately or shortly after displaying the message about waiting. Is this due to the router security, or perhaps I wasn't close enough?

Could be either security OR range. Or both.

I've spent most of the day working on a GUI so I hope to release it in the next few days. Should make things much simpler

Update regarding the gui.

I've currently created a basic gui with full support for wep (not yet wpa, but it's coming).

I can use it to crack wep networks without the need to even touch the keyboard.

I'm approaching a releasable version so keep checking this thread as it should be less than 3 days.

D-Theme Night

As you can see I'm not trying particularly hard to make it look nice, just functionality at the moment.

I'll improve the layout when I get everything working. Seriously this has been a mission, much harder than I originally thought

Worth it though

Actually I like the simple tabbed look of it, very clean, should be easy to navigate and use.

Oh it's a D-Theme, he does some nice work. wish I could express my self in and artistic way like that, gona have to learn to use Gimp properly.

Thanks. Not sure about how to lay everything out, but the tabbed layout does work nicely.

On a side note, does anyone with grep/awk piping experience know how to determince whether a device is in monitor or managed mode via iwconfig?
