I cannot help but I support you in this task. VLC is a great addition to the N9's list of applications (although more work would be needed to make it more useable, at the moment for example I see no way to quit fullscreen mode except by closing the application (on the N950 the keyboard may help)).

http://www.irunvlc.me/ domain is dead. Hopefully someone behind the scenes is still working on VLC for N9...

Is there any way we can load sub titles along with .avi files? Does the default player on N9 takes it automatically?

I emailed the guy that ported VLC several months ago and he had no plans to develop it further. He did not have the time to develop an interface himself, nor pass the Store requirements. If nobody takes over, then the port will stay as is.

I can help with the GUI graphics, but not the porting.

You should have a look at the Open Video Player which supports subtitle, while VLC hasn't reached maturity on harmattan!

Well Open Video Player too hasn't been receiving much love from marxian so its really scrapping the end of the barrel for a proper video player for the n9...

True.
An optimized version of VLC with Harmattan GUI would be a killer.
