There are already a couple of old threads about rogue and its variants (aka "roguelikes") , but they mostly focused on N8x0 & Diablo/OS2008 and left off there with little mention of N900:
Rogue Variants
Faangband, Fallout, etc
Request: Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup
Crawl Stone Soup (ssh)
Crawl: Terminal too small?
ADOM-sage (frontend of ADOM)

I hope we can have a thread dedicated to this great genre of computer games for all times/geeks.

AFAIK there are five roguelikes ports for N900 in the repos:

Nethack
UnNethack
Vulture's Eye
Crawl (Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup)
Powder http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=55275

In addition there's a very nice SDL version of angband by Dawnmist: http://www.dawnmist.net/angband/

Questions I would like to ask the fellow players:
  1. Which roguelike port(s) you have played on N900 and you like most?
  2. Wha/t special issue(s) you have encoutered in the ports for N900?
  3. Which roguelike game(s) you wish to see on N900?
  4. Which roguelike port(s) for N900 you have worked/are working/ are planning to work on?
  5. Any interesting URLs about roguelikes?
  6. Any special tips, tricks, tactics, etc.?
  7. Do you save games or play permadeath?

Some URLs FYI:

I was trying Dawnmist's SDL version of Angband (3.1.2). It was so beautiful, but I found it a bit cumbersome to do ESC by pressing "Ctrl-e" because my right thumb has to go over to the left to reach "e" while the left one is holding Ctrl. After some trials I managed to change the macro to backspace. It should be a safe option because it is originally mapped to "<", which duplicates the macro of Ctrl-left.
The process is decribed in http://angband.oook.cz/forum/showthr...3052#post43052 .
It's a bit complicated. You may save the trouble by using the attached User.prf. Unzip it to /home/user/.angband/Angband/ before running the game.

Ancient Domains of Mystery is the mother of all cake.

There's a new server that just went up not too long ago.

I only have a N800 but I've got like the absolute best set up in the world that you wouldn't even dream of to play this on my tablet.

It took me almost a year to finally get everything just right.

And yeah.

Love it!

How do you play ADOM on N900? I was trying to get the Amiga playing in UAE4ALL but not successful yet.
The Amiga port is said to have nice interface and graphics... sounds enticing.

btw there is a new tileset for angband and other bands: http://angband.oook.cz/forum/showthread.php?t=3823
It is working well even though it's still testing.
I find this tilese more suitable to small screens, compared to the old 8x8 (blocky) and 16x16 Adom Bolts and 32x32 Gervais (nice but too detailed.
Will try that on FAangband as it has triple tile option which make the game more playable (readable) on N900. Of course there's no FAangband port yet. So this weekend I'll to see I can compile it from the source.

You have Angband 3.1.2?

Nice!

I've got 3.1.1 but it's not Dawnmist's port. Ukki did this for me and it's just your basic terminal version. It still rocks though.

Oh bro. Seriously? I don't have time to post it all on how I play ADOM.

I'm using Roxterm, Xbindkeys, Xkbd, scripts, oh, let me just say, I have the works for this game.

Love love with love of love of lots of love like love love it!

And dude. You missed it.

I only have a N800.

Aha. I see. There is a v3.1.2 port by Dawnmist but just for N900 (see the link above). Perhaps you could talk him into making one for N8x0.

Sorry I am cross-posting now.

PS I have read about your (old) story of getting Angband running on N8x0.

Yeah, I haven't posted much at all in at least 6 months if not longer.

I just came here tonight for no reason, well, except for being drunk and caught your thread.

And bro, seriously, the best Rogue is ADOM, nothing even compares with this. Like. Ever. *lol*

Honestly, all it requires is some type of SSH client.

But to get the best results, yeah, I even needed someone here to hack Xterm so that there wasn't a one pixel invisible border so I could use the full screen.

I wasn't kidding, it took me almost a year to get it all perfect, but it was worth it.

It's the closet thing to playing D&D that I know of.

Sure. I am going to learn more about UAE4ALL and report back if Amiga's ADOM runs.
Although I've never played ADOM I've read the manual and like the whole skill system which looks pretty close to the D&D way compared to other roguelikes.
This is the only roguelike I know of which plays with birthdays. Any other roguelike like this?

I wouldn't know about the birthday question. Sorry.

Try playing ADOM on your computer for an hour or two.

If you think it's the best, I'll help you to be able to play it on your tablet.
