I just received a car dock and decided to try to use the maps on the n900. Shouldn't the screen stay lit when that app is running? Shouldn't the app override any settings that would turn the screen off?
So my next questions is whats the best/easiest way to keep the screen on?

Ok so how does anyone set up the n900 to use the maps so the screen does not shut off?

I think the only way is to get a cigar plug charger (dc-6), then set Settings -> Display -> "Display stays lit when charging".

I wish there was a way to have the display timeout disabled when on battery power, but I haven't found it.

if you want to keep the back light on, you can install Simple Brightness Applet application.
