Off on a very long flight to UK from Australia.

Was wondering what is the best player at handling most video formats thrown at it?
Specifically .MKV & .AVI?

Is there a VLC for the N900 which is very stable?

Or would i be better off going down the codec route and installing codecs?

If it does not play in smplayer, chances are slim to get it played at all on the N900, but its interface is a kind of desktop interface just shrunken to the small screen, which does not look the best and is fiddly to use.

Also get yourself a spare battery for this long flight, you might need it.

There is Downloads in the upper menu bar of the forum, Downloads has its own search, where you will find smplayer http://maemo.org/downloads/search/ap...5&fetch=SearchClicking on the green button, will download a file with directions for HildonApplicationManager, which you may have to fix first according to your other thread, to make it work.

Done it but it cant handle mkv at all. The screen plays all green.
Any ideas of a fix or is it just something which will not be played?

You could try SiB as well, I remember it seemed smoother than SMPlayer to me. But I did not do the tweak for playing 720p files, so I have no experience on the difference that may exist between the two players with this tweak.

Try KM player it supports Mplayer as well as Nokia's DSP accelerated player. But don't expect 900 to play anything above 720p - baseline profile smoothly.
