Given that the XA2 Plus didn't have a global release, and I want Sailfish on a 18:9 screen, this thread is being put up as a placeholder for the Sony Xperia XA3 that I expect to be announced in the next day or two.

Q - Will Jolla support this device, or will they skip this as too 'transitional' with XA2 support only just arriving, and we'll get the XA5 next year?

Q - Will Jolla support it 'soon', or are we looking at Q4 2019 at least given the new CPU arch?

Fun times.

why would you ask for some unknown mid-entry-level XA3, when we already have XZ2 lineup (xz2, xz2c, xz3)?

I'd imagine because @Jedibeeftrix has one of those and needs support for it

Forgive me, i wasn't aware that jolly had announced official support for high-end Xperia handsets such as the XZ series....

They didn't. But it is far more sensible and feasible, since the kernel and HW are out for some months, unlike XA3.

But there isn't any indication that the Jolla/Sony partnership is targeting anything other than Sony's mid-range handsets.

I'd be the first to jump on an XZ if I though Sailfish was inbound, but...

X wasn't a mid-range phone.

No need to jump beforehand, hopefully they will give us some hints at MWC.

X was their attempt to build an upper midrange brand.
it failed, and was binned.
replaced by a slight uplift to their midrange XA handsets which now have qualcom chipsets rather than mediatek which the xa1 series arrived with.

Considering that even xa2 isn't fully supported one year after I dont see what is there to hope for. I wanted ultra but ATM I need something more than basic hobby OS for work. And there's hope that XZ2 will be supported before XA3. If not.......well, at least I dont have to carry two phones with me.

I agree on the limitations.
For me the idea of buying a phone without:
1. Fingerprint reader
2. Google app support
3. FM radio is very difficult
And yet, the strategy appears to be Xperia XA range.

So, yes, it does indeed appear a safe bet.
Worse comes to the worst: i still end up with a phone with all three of the above.

If Jolla can't supply the above, then regardless of whether they fail on ZX or XA2 or xa3 makes little odds to me.
