I am going to develop high-tech open-system, open-source Python based car navigation system for Nokia 810.
As Nokia 810 comes already equipped with GPS unit
there is an easy way to read gps data from a fix
and overlay on map tiles.
Another feature I am looking a solution for is map tile heading based rotation.
py-mapper is a good example
and py-keyboard , flying keyboard another success.
POI database should given an intelligent interface to let user
edit, update, modify POI entries on-the-fly.
Public webpage accessible and updated database of POIs
And more graphics, animation in Python,
zooming in,
interactive menu and more
py-mapper is a basic solution,
maemo mapper is really excellent solution and application
but as Nokia 810 comes already with preinstalled navigation software and equipped with GPS device,
there is little chance for the above one-man-made applications to succeed in business competition.
Python is a nice solution for any such group project like
group-made, group-designed car navigation.
What is really hot is a chance to have a lot of developers, think-tank personalities to provide developers of Py-Navigator
with hot features, menus, interaction ideas.
Please let me know your opinion
as I am looking for some Python coders and developers to join
and find the way to self- or co-finance the project
and finance, donate developers.
If you are aware of any restrictions why Python should not be employed, please let me know in advance.
But this is Python script which can be read and modified by everyone in maemo python environment.
SDK is for top coders. guru developers only.
It would be nice to have TMC receiver on in maemo-navigator.
