In new versions of mplayer, they have added in a new audio filter called 'scaletempo' which basically lets you player audio faster or slower without changing the pitch (i.e. no chipmunk's effect). This is very useful for audio book playback/learning.

Any capable kind person to port it to diablo?

No, I was told that N800 CPU is too low to implement such a feature.
