I'm getting errors when bringing usb0 up with "ifup usb0"

I can get usb0 up manually by doing

Hi Aydan,
I had the same problem, in the end I found an answer somewhere here on TMO and that suggested to use Mad Developer, this allows you to see/set ip address for usb/lan/gprs and is ready for Windows or Linux OS - worked for me on Win 7 Ult, I finally managed to SSH into N900 from my PC.
As far as I know, the ip address for the N900 is 192.168.2.15

I actually gave up on the N900 for the job because of problems with the charging algorithm.
I'm using a mobile hotspot now.
