There is Amazon MP3 Downloader for Debian 5, i386 architecture. Ask them to compile it for armel architecture, and tell them you don't request support for Maemo platform unless they want to.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=200154260

There are also apps for Android
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=200443800
and BlackBerry
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=200586960

So they might even want to make official application for Maemo 5, though don't be too hopeful.

Pymazon works, at least to some degree.

1. What I am really hoping for is a personal diary application. Nothing fancy. just a date/time based notes database with password protection and import/export facilities.
It would be another way in which I get closer to my beloved N900 by sharing my secrets, aspirations and thoughts :-)

2. An OCR app (like page scanner). The libraries could then be used in developing apps like the iphone "word lens" real-time translation apps.

Apart from that, there are some really great ideas here and like mentioned before, most of the apps in repos provide excellent functionality and moslty just need some UI improvement and more features.

Only two apps I am really missing:

1) Finger-friendly word processor with integrated spellcheck.

2) Decent e-mail application that works reliably with Exchange 2003.

I would like to see more optimized public transit navigation apps that use the GPS and real-time arrival info. I realize the Google Maps API doesn't allow access to transit data, so maybe it will have to be on a case by case basis...

... which is a way of putting forth my perhaps somewhat niche desire to see a nice app for the great OneBusAway system for the King County (Seattle, WA) Metro system (http://www.onebusaway.org/). Ports exist for Iphone, Android, WP7, Blackberry; its all open source, any takers? I can figure out what I need now with their mobile website, but for navigating one handed on the fly in the rain while walking around town nothing beats a well designed app.

Oh, and to return to one of my old hobby horses, a full-blooded, touch-optimized Anki port would be sweet (http://ankisrs.net/)

And of course there is the dreaming -- Netflix, Wordlens, Zipcar, etc proprietary closed etc...

*reading thru past comments*

I'd say let 3G video die its slow and painful death.

No new smartphone platform supports it. It's already a thing of the past.

The #1 app or feature i am missing from N900 is....

1. NOT voice navigation (there is Modrana)
2. NOT portrait mode (don't care)

is....MMS (YES, mms i can not send the a damm picture or receive one from this phone without a data service) You can not do it w/ wi-fi alone, not with fMMS!!....my oldest 5 yrs old phone ...way way before smartphone become popular can even send and receive pictures through the conversation app....why can't i do the same thing w/ this phone?? And this is a high-tech phone...i can't believe it. Why can't i receive or send picture using wi-fi, not everyone have data plan and don't want to get one...it's too expensive). That's the one thing i miss about this phone.

5 years ago, i have Verizon and my phone ISN'T even a smartphone but i can send text along w/ picture to my gf. This one w/ T-mobile can't do it. Is this because T-mobile are different from Verizon?? I don't know.

I am still using my n900. Love the open phone and hate that I am missing the most basic of apps:

1) PIM - sport for Task Descriptions. (that can sync with outlook)
2)Search the ability to Search PIM info. (IE: notes, Tasks and other calendar and contact info, and SMS and IM data.)
3) a simple app that lets me choose the dealt programs.
4) an app to allow for a qwerky portrait keyboard.
5) Augmented reality translation with dictionary for many languages. (like the Iphone app.)
6) a note taking app that recorder audio and allows you to navigate the audio by the note taken. (something that would work similar to Livescribe Pulse Digital Smartpen but on my phone.)
