A Wiki for Harmattan Apps compatibility would be a good point to start.

Which raises the question, since we don't give a rat's *** about MeeGo anymore, what's stopping the devs from switching over to .deb and coming back in line with Maemo and Harmattan?

I'd personally prefer Debian derived tools too. But isn't RPM/Zypper infrastructure inherited from the choice of using OBS? By the way, Tizen is also using Deb packaging.

Million thanks for this. Just booted up Nemo, ffs if all fremantle apps would be available this would get a huuuge boost in popularity/testers/early adoipters. Expecting all devs to move to dead format (in mobile terms, suse get back in the cage), huge mistake... Why break something that is working great so far? Empty catalog is a killer for starters. If this can be easily achieved, pls Nemo devs rethink your (or meego guys) decision

This proposal should be directed to Mer, not to Nemo alone. And Mer is already pretty involved with many parties including Plasma Active with Vivaldi tablet almost out. I bet changing it at this state won't be easy.

Components can be packaged in rpm and deb formats, just use other tool. They are not tied to platform. When you tie a platform to a package manager/update manager you force things. While plasma and vivaldi packages can easily be packaged in deb later on move to deb might prove difficult for Nemo (all the testing potential wasted? reminds of nokia's changes by higher up guys). We might end up in 'Nokia killed maemo by changing its course' kind of hell. Reverting mistakes as soon as they are noticed could help a lot. If Nemo used .deb compatible with Fremantle catalogs (extras/testing/devel) there would be no crying about lack of apps. Also libs that have been so plentiful in fremantle repos would be freely available to work upon, not starting all porting job from scratch. As easy as it might seem to be, Fremantle catalog was built by hundreds of users. New platform cannot count on such adoption, unless they have a company to do 1B dollar PR for them

To clarify - I'm only for it, and prefer using Debian tools. OBS should support both RPM and DEB really. If you want to propose that to Mer developers - try catching them on IRC and share back their response here.

I don't think Mer is compatible out of the box with Fermantle structure, because besides packaging there are several other architectural differences. At this point Mer is quite far ahead so switching back won't be easy. But if you have convincing reasons and help - propose it.

isn't their a possibility to share apps between maemo and nemo.. just like we can use Easy debian Apps in Maemo via "debbie"

if Apps like AngryBirds, opera, firefox,Lxde,WebOs games Manager,ME could be laoded from maemo instead of dual-installation.. just a thought..
