You need to install john from the repos.

So to get your password back, don't risk editing the mtd1 directly, just do this:

Code:
echo root:$(grep -A 13 lock_code /dev/mtd1|tail -1):
then put this in a file and crack it with any DES cracker... wait and enjoy :-)

As a side note (reference), this works with 1.2009.42-11.002 ... we'll see how it changes with time.
What will i do..

if i use this code the response is " tail -1 " not found

Hello! I had purchased my N900 a few years ago. I had changed the password several times and never had a problem. One day under a stressful situation I locked my device by mystake and forgot the password that I had changed recently. I have my proof of purchase with me and I can send it to you via e-mail if you want. I do not know how to fix it, I have researched but didnt get how to do it. Now my device has been locked for 4 months and havent been able to use it. Could you help me?

Did you run it as root? If yes then you have default code 12345

Yes I've runed it as root, but I'm preatty sure I' ve changed the default code becouse once I had to reflash the phone for not having the lock code.
Is there any other way to check the code?
Thanks
