In fact you can probably find over 9000 ways to access files on a flash - scp, ftp, smb, nfs... You don't need to unmount partition to use all of the above.
No Wifi - can use usbnet (I haven't tried it with N900, worked fine with my other linux phone, http://wiki.maemo.org/USB_networking)

The only reason to use fat atm is camera and a case when you need to connect your phone to a random windows machine. 2-4Gb partition should be more than enough for that.

Naturally

Hence why I did put only a 2GB partition

I do tope someone will fixup the stupid limitation of the filemanager and all the stuff that access files... I'd like to be the one to say where I want to store files... not only have a choice between MyDocs and the SD card.

So I followed the instructions in this post and I was successfully able to change my partition to as it describes - however I would like to revert my device back to the factory partition layout... How would I go about doing this? The wiki is very misleading
flashing a new image on your device will reset the device back to factory defaults and remove all data not on the memory card: preferences, bookmarks, installed applications
Reflashing does not restore factory defaults... In fact quite to the opposite effect it seems to leave saved settings in your /home directory alone as well as it does not default the partition tables as I had hoped it might...

Open to suggestions,
~Jeff

Reflashing with the eMMC image and the normal Image will revert to factory defaults.

I followed the flashing instructions found here but my edited partition table remained the same. Is there a different way I should be flashing the device?

Thanks,
~Jeff

The directory where ovi maps stores it maps is also in MyDocs (/cities). So if you want to upload maps (for offline usage) for e.g. whole Europe (source), or the whole world , you will run out of space very quickly.

So better choose a bigger MyDocs if you want to have a lot of maps on your device.

Or could it be, that there is another solution? E.g. a config file to tell ovi maps that the cities directory can be found elsewhere?

You are assuming so much. Not everyone will use ovi maps, or media player etc... I know I'm not even removed them from my system.

I'm just warning: Okay, I didn't explicitly write "warning". But my intention just was to say there are more reasons to possibly have a bigger MyDocs than just the camera - ovi maps is another one (as long noone knows a workaround).

Well I think it's fairly obvious that anyone trying this should be well aware of what can happen.
