Hello, i recently installed the SDK on a virtual machine. I managed to run the UI using Xephir but it seems to be empty..

The users interface seems to work fine, but without any program installed.
I only can acces "Settings" and "App manager". After adding the different repositorys in the virtual App manager, i get acces to all the applications as in the real device, but failing in the installation.

this is what i get in the terminal
^[[A^[[A[sbox-FREMANTLE_X86: ~] > export DISPLAY=:2
[sbox-FREMANTLE_X86: ~] > af-sb-init.sh start
Note: For remote X connections DISPLAY should contain hostname!

Hi,

try to consider this or this thread, and maybe one of these solutions apply to you. If this doesn't help, please let me know.

I saw those posts, but didnt help at all. The problem is in the same stage. BTW i am running the sdk inside VMware, not VirtualBox.

I may add a Bookmarks to the desktop (virtual device's desktop), but i can't acces the explorer.

Install things like xTerm using 'fakeroot'

Sudo SU
echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/vdso_enabled
exit on each reboot.

I run my /scratchbox/ inside a VM (Mint Linux). Works fine.
Did you install everything CORRECTLY?!

sudo su apt-get upgrade ?

Use this guide and just copy and paste it all and it will run PERFECTLY!

Guide to install SDK - PERFECT!

Just replace 'USER' with your login.

i wanted to install the SDK in Ubuntu 9.1, but failed to install ubuntu after several tries.

Thats why i decided to go with the Virtual Machine.

I think i messed up in some stage my sources.list file, because right now i am not even able to run apt-get update inside the scratchbox.

this is my current source.list

W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

thanx for the help

@kingoddball: thanx for your help, the guide helped me a lot.

Decided to reinstall the virtualmachine and it seems that the problem was with the nokia binaries.

Code:
fakeroot apt-get install nokia-binaries nokia-apps
now i'll try to install Qt for maemo

Just to stop people from getting confused:

sudo is an application that runs another application with root privileges.
su is an application that changes which user you are currently running applications as.

So, "sudo su" is to ask the system to run "su" as root and "su" by itself will change the active user to the super user, "root".

Furthermore, the argument to "su" is which user to change to so running commands using "sudo su <whatever>" looks both superfluous and wrong if your intention was to run a command as root.

@seridyan

Failed to fetch http://repository.maemo.org/dists/fr...**/Release.gpg Temporary failure resolving 'repository.maemo.org'
Failure to resolve means that the nameserver setting in your /etc/resolv.conf file is either missing or pointing at something that's not a nameserver or is unreachable.

Depending on your setup, /etc/resolv.conf might contain references to sub-directories with special settings. Have a look at the files on your host system and replicate them into the guest system.
