UPGRADE Mar 2nd, 2012:

A new version is up, magnusplus_0.0.2-2_armel.deb.

The negatives viewer has now lost the blueish look, the colors of the negatives when looked through using the application are much closer to those of the prints now.

It's good to see you continue with the development, have you tried to upload it to Extras so more users could notice it?

Not yet, I wanted to improve the quality first (it's only with my second N900, differently configured that I've noticed that the solution I've used initially for fixing the focus doesn't work on all phones; then I had to fix the blueish tint) and to clean up the building process (for now the custom gstreamer filter can be only built in the context of the gst-plugins-good0.10 package).

After I fix the building process as well it will be ready to be submitted to the "extras" repository.

best regards

Try it for a while
Pros:
Awesome soon (very very impressed)
Does what you would like to see in a normal Magnifier
You can have a lot of fun with it.

Cons:
As usually the camera is very poor in dark condicions.
Not many options (yet)
The lockscreen try to get in the way all the time (would like to see that this app keep it longer 1 min or so)

Magnifier works perfectly though the sound that makes the camera (stutter?) is a bit scary

This is the noise of setting the focus. It shouldn't be too much different from the noise the default camera app does when it starts or when it stops.
Most importantly, it shouldn't be permanent, just two-three clicks when the magnifier starts.

Well, I'm glad people on other continents find it useful.
For helping with the darkness, I plan to make possible to turn on the photo LED while using the magnifier, when so desired by the user.
The screen getting blank annoys me as well, not only here, but also in navigators (mappero) and games (chess). If there is a programing solution to it, I'd love to hear it. Until then, I just increase in settings the display time-out time to 2 minutes.

If three more people test it I will be able to promote it to extra.
